Enchanted Rock is not the only famous spot for outdoor lovers. The entire area is covered in parks with plenty of hiking trails, fishing holes, water recreation, picnic areas, and campgrounds. Perfect for families with kids or just a romantic night out under the stars.
Another great outdoor opportunity is at the Old Tunnel State Park. Here you can view the emergence of over 3 million Mexican free-tailed bats who make their home in this abandoned railroad tunnel (hence the name) from May through October.
Peach Picking
Fredericksburg is also renowned for our succulent peaches and many farms let you pick your own. You may notice several shops selling a wide assortment of peach related products from preserves to wine. If you’ve never tasted a freshly plucked peach straight from the tree then set aside an hour or two and come fill your basket!

Wildflowers
Texas is home to 5,000 species of wildflower! Every spring, the surrounding countryside awakens with a cascade of colors as the wildflowers burst forth from their winter slumber and paint the Texas Hill Country in a breathtaking display of nature. Visitors are encouraged to stop and take in the beauty but please do not pick the flowers! Just outside Fredericksburg you will find Wildseed Farms, the nation’s largest wildflower farm. Here you can walk the paths that surround the farm, enjoy lunch in their cafe, and pick out your favorite seeds from their gift shop. This is an experience you don’t want to miss!
Hunting
There is an abundance of wildlife that can be found throughout the year. Game includes wild hog, javelina, white-tailed deer, dove, quail, duck, and a number of other fowl.

Topaz Hunting
The state gem of Texas is the topaz and can only be found in the Mason, TX area which is a short drive north of Fredericksburg. Surrounding farms and ranchlands offer tourists a chance to go topaz hunting where you will be able to take home any treasures you find.
